A website intervention (sicklecellstories.org) that captures the narratives (via video or text) of persons with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) who have experienced microaggressions in U.S. healthcare settings. The website will incorporate an AI (emotion recognition) API that will record affective data of the storyteller. The purpose of the project is two-fold: [1] To increase access to therapeutic forums for persons with SCD so that they may express and share their experiences of microaggressions in healthcare. [2] To create a dataset contributing to the quantitative literature that examines the SCD patient experience of microaggressions in healthcare.
