    Project description

The Smart Vote project is an intelligent voting platform that replaces traditional voting methods. It gives the user a simple and secure access to vote on things that matter in his community. We don’t want for the project to be seen as just another app that will allow us to vote - the goal of Smart Vote is to change how people think about Democracy in general. Right now, for many young people elections are a chore - they don’t go to vote from various reasons: procrastination, how formal it is, the amounts of people in one place, etc.

Smart Vote gives you an open platform to perform voting in a secure, distributed, blockchain based environment. Due to the openess of the platform, it’s not only suitable for general (macro scale) elections, but also works on micro scale: from city planning voting to school projects for the youngest, following smart-city ideas.

To support elderly voting (so people that aren’t as technology savy as ourselves), we proposed future changes to the system, that will allow them to vote in a comfortable way:

    • Our platform API is designed in such a way, that it could be used not only by specialized assistive devices, but even by Arduino/Raspberry enthusiasts, that could build their own solutions.
    • The implementation of text to speech techniques, built on services like AWS Polly/other. This could be used by any application, in the same way as our other interface endpoints.
    • We would promote Bring your Grandchildren events to promote family life, to spend time together during important decisions.

Sounds great right? This is true of course, but as any hackathon project - it doesn’t have any value, unless it can make money (at least that is what they always say, personally I like community projects). We described our project with the following business plan:

    1. The Smart Vote project would be open source. We want to give democracy to the community, not only people that earn cash in this world. This also opens the way to personal donations (crowdfunding), which would be welcome.
    2. One way of gathering money would be through licensing - whether it would be government or corporations/companies, after verification of income, a suitable license would be applied.
    3. Second way of gathering money would be from providing Smart Vote software using the Software as a Service (SaaS) plan. We could host the chain on our premises, providing an environment not giving a setup-headache.
